St. Mark's AME--the church was founded in 1864 and it is the church where Linda Brown's father was the Revered. It has recently received a grant from the National Park Service for restoration. It is not on the National Register, but it should be. The church webpage history
http://www.stjohnametopeka.org/about.html says that this building was built in the 1880s and the cornerstone confirms this. Notice the height of the foundation--smart thinking.
