Second Baptist, the newest building, and the only one that is not in the 1899 Plaindealer Church directory. These pictures show the relationship of all the churches to the bridge and the road--this area is north and west of Mudtown, which is a well known African/American and Hispanic neighborhood that was wiped out by urban renewal and the highway system, but again the powers that be chose to take swipe through a thriving minority neighborhood. This pattern is seen throughout the U.S. (Motoring: the Highway Experience in America by John Jakle and The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein are great reads on this)
